Nancy Lorenz: Elements
GAVLAK | Booth C8
The Art Show
Park Avenue Armory, New York
October 29 – November 2, 2024

GAVLAK is pleased to announce its participation in The Art Show, organized by ADAA, with a solo booth presentation of new works by Nancy Lorenz. The exhibition will showcase Lorenz’s latest works from the Elements series, alongside unique, new furniture pieces and design boxes. Lorenz’s approach bridges the boundaries between fine and decorative art, blending elements of painting, sculpture, and design.

Known for her meticulous craftsmanship, Lorenz utilizes traditional techniques such as mother-of-pearl inlay, lacquer, gold and silver leaf, and water gilding, transforming these materials into abstract works that reference nature, landscapes, and expressionistic abstraction. At the heart of her Elements series is an ongoing investigation of natural elements and materials, evoking the beauty and transience of landscapes through luxurious textures and compositions. This presentation invites viewers to engage with Lorenz’s innovative exploration of materiality, where Eastern and Western influences converge to create objects that are as functional as they are beautiful. Each piece shimmers with a timeless quality, offering a meditative exploration of texture, light, and form.

In addition to these paintings, Lorenz will also present bespoke furniture—a new facet of her practice that extends her aesthetic into the realm of functional design. These pieces exemplify the artist’s ongoing commitment to merging fine and decorative arts, making tangible objects that are at once functional and evocative. Each piece is carefully crafted, incorporating the same meticulous materials and techniques that define her painterly work.

Lorenz's work is distinguished by its synthesis of East-meets-West influences, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese craftsmanship, European art traditions, and 20th-century abstraction. Her extensive travels, particularly her time spent in Tokyo, profoundly shaped her approach to materials and techniques. The fusion of these cultural references is central to Lorenz's work, which balances timeless artistry with contemporary relevance.
