Nancy Lorenz | Tiffany Ginza

Now open: Tiffany & Co.’s newest location, the Tiffany Ginza flagship store, designed by Peter Marino (@petermarinoarchitect) and featuring a permanent commissioned installation by Nancy Lorenz (@nancylorenzstudio). Deeply influenced by her formative years in Tokyo, Lorenz reflects, “It was during high school in Tokyo that I decided I wanted to become an artist… This experience shaped my aesthetic and my approach to artmaking at every level.” The new screen-like panels throughout the store reflect her ongoing engagement with Japanese craft traditions and the seamless dialogue she creates between art and design.

The white gold and mother-of-pearl wall panels are a continuation of Lorenz’s “White Gold Cloud” series. “Night Sky Screen,” made with lacquer, mother-of-pearl inlay, and gestural resin, suggests a constellation in motion and echoes the large-scale screen she created for Tiffany’s Landmark store in New York. On the fourth floor, a new series of geometric pearl inlay and lacquer panels continues her exploration of pattern and proportion. “Ginza represents the height of luxury for me, and I was very inspired to create these panels as a continuation of my years collaborating with Tiffany,” Lorenz shares. Crafted with great care over many hours, the works are designed to create a peaceful environment where, as she notes, “various details illuminate, just as a diamond catches the light in different ways.”
