Press Release

"The constitution does not begin with 'I, the president' it begins with 'We, the people'"
-Gloria Steinem, Women's March on Washington, January 21, 2017

Gavlak Los Angeles is pleased to present, Not I, We, a group exhibition curated by Julie Russo and Lauren Wood featuring artists that identify as women and/or LGBTQ, and feminists that support them. The exhibition will showcase a multitude of mediums including drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, knit, ceramic sculpture and installation in an effort to highlight human rights issues and promote equality, compassion, and transparency in both the political and public sphere.

The exhibition will also act as a call to action. We will supply postcards created by the Women's March so one may exercise their right to share their views and ideas with local government officials. In addition, we will provide further information on the next steps you can take to fully participate in our democracy and have your voice heard.

Artists featured include Jose Alvarez (D.O.P.A.), Lisa Anne Auerbach, Donald Baechler, Judie Bamber, Amy Bessone, Andrew Brischler, Florence Derive, Lecia Dole-Recio, Judith Eisler, Francesca Gabbiani, David Haxton, Bovey Lee, Maynard Monrow, Yuval Pudik, Dean Sameshima, Alexis Teplin, Betty Tompkins, Marnie Weber, T.J. Wilcox, and Rob Wynne.

An artist reception and activist open house will be held on Saturday, January 28, from 4-6pm at Gavlak Los Angeles.

For more information about the exhibition or for press inquiries, please contact Lauren Wood at lauren@gavlakgallery.com or 323-467-5700.
