Press Release

Opening Reception: Saturday, October 26th, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Gavlak Los Angeles looks forward to welcoming you to their new downtown location at 1700 South Santa Fe Avenue. The gallery will open Saturday, October 26th, with an inaugural group exhibition of gallery artists alongside artists Gavlak is thrilled to be working with for the very first time.

The inaugural exhibition will feature work by artists: Jose Alvarez (D.O.P.A.), Candida Alvarez, Alex Anderson, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Judie Bamber, Andrew Brischler, Kendell Carter, Willie Cole, Gisela Colón, Mike Davis, Linda Daniels, Lecia Dole-Recio, Judith Eisler, Beverly Fishman, Francesca Gabbiani, Nir Hod, Deborah Kass, Neil Lane, Nancy Lorenz, Marilyn Minter, Maynard Monrow, Ebony G. Patterson, Enoc Perez, Scott Reeder, Dean Sameshima, Shinique Smith, Anthony Sonnenberg, Alexis Teplin, Betty Tompkins, Andy Warhol, Marnie Weber, T.J. Wilcox, and Rob Wynne.

The new 4,500 square foot layout will feature a private showroom and separate project space, doubling the size of Gavlak’s former Hollywood gallery. In the 2020 season, Gavlak Los Angeles will exhibit solo presentations of new work by artists Alex Anderson, Gisela Colón, and Enoc Perez, among others. Dedicated to intimate, focused, and historic exhibitions of under-recognized artists, the project space in the new gallery will further highlight small surveys from minimalism, to Andy Warhol works on paper, and old master drawings. The new building is also home to Susanne Vielmetter and Nicodim Gallery, and blocks from Night Gallery, François Ghebaly, and Wilding Cran Gallery in the burgeoning downtown gallery district.

Since opening in 2005, Gavlak has been dedicated to promoting the diverse cultural landscape of today while upholding their commitment to providing a platform for underrepresented artists to be recognized by the international art community. In keeping with their mission to advance marginalized women and LGBTQ artists, Gavlak continues to devote their energy, resources, and love to these artists in order to bring critical attention to their program.

An artist’s reception will take place Saturday, October 26, from 4-7pm at Gavlak Los Angeles (1700 South Santa Fe Avenue, Suite 440, Los Angeles, CA 90021). Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
